It is a real pleasure for me to welcome you to La Escuelita. My name is Paola Corzo, I am the founder and owner of this learning center. Since childhood my parents insisted on the importance of education, if you are here today is because you share this same vision and want to see your children excel academically.
I was born in Bogota, Colombia. At the age of 14, my parents decided that this country, the United States, would be our new home. Since then, I have the fortune to reside in Pleasanton. I studied high school at Foothill High School and then I went to San Francisco State University where I got a bachelor’s degree in international business. A year later, I decided to get a certificate in Project Management and Agile Management at the University of California, Berkeley.
I studied my career as AB540 (undocumented student) so I have a dip understanding of the challenges students’ face and the sacrifices of their families. I worked throughout my entire career and that's where my experience as a tutor and teacher began, and my path towards wanting to teach. I have been teaching math, English as a second language and Spanish for 10 years, both in private classes and also in other learning centers.
Today I have the fortune to open this learning center for you. This is a place where children receive the necessary tools for their academic success without creating a dependency on a tutor. This is a safe place where they will feel supported and at the same time challenged.

I’ve lived in Pleasanton since I was 4 and went to kindergarten through fifth grade at Valley View Elementary. Then I attended Pleasanton Middle School. I recently graduated from Amador Valley Highschool and I’m currently studying at Las Positas Community College. I plan on continuing my education with the goal of receiving a business degree at a 4-year university.
My dream goal is to step into the international business world with the help of my bilingualism. Here in Pleasanton, I have always been heavily involved in the Latino community. Since a little kid, I’ve been a part of las posadas, parades, and have helped other Latinx organizations.
I hope to continue spreading cultural heritage and also help those who are determined to learn another language whether that be English or Spanish.

Efficiency sets them up for success; as a teacher, building that solid bond bringing a safe & comfortable environment is too great importance. Allowing their ideas and questions to be heard and creative, and open-minded. I graduated from Foothill High School; I’m studying at Las Positas College my career path is to become a Bilingual Teacher and a Pediatric Nurse.
Becoming a member at La Escuelita is a great privilege; as a daughter of immigrant parents, it has helped me be empathetic to the struggles and needs of others how challenging is to learn a second language, not only that but other school courses. Being able to help develop & strengthen a child’s academic needs is of great importance in my life, to see them overcome their challenges and their success and be able to applaud them.
I came to California not knowing the language, the different levels of school subjects. Learning the hard way and having blessings in my life, a one-on-one tutor who became one of the most influential people in my life and impacted my life, even when we couldn’t communicate due to language barriers.
I want to return the favor with other young children, hoping that maybe one day one of them will be able to help others when needed. Learning two languages or more is the most significant benefit. It not only sets you for more success in life, but you can help others who have limitations; it opens new doors every time.

At La Escuelita, I teach a variety of subjects including English, Spanish and math. Apart from teaching, I love spending time with my friends and family, playing the piano, and going shopping!
A fun fact about me is I also teach piano! I have taught piano for two years, and have also worked as a tutor in the past. Another fun fact about me is that I learned how to speak Spanish in middle and high school, as I am not a native speaker.
Teaching at La Escuelita is always the best part of my day, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to help my students succeed.

I studied my degree of Theology and Youth Ministry at St Mellitus College in South West London whilst working as a Youth Pastor for three and a half years. As a keen learner of Spanish, I later decided to become qualified in teaching English as a foreign language as I knew how important it was to learn in an environment of fun, lots of patience and kindness.
I resonate greatly with some of our students as I also learn to navigate a new country in a new language - what a cool adventure to be part of! It is a great privilege to work at La Escuelita and use my experience with young people to be truly attentive to their needs and concerns. Can't wait to see you in class! Ms. Kitty
